Nakane Kyoko was born in 1984 and is active at Work Center Toyonaka (Toyonaka City, Osaka).

Since around 2014, Nakane has been engaged in the practice of cutting milk cartons with scissors and layering the small cut pieces inside a plastic storage case. She slowly cuts out printed product logos, ingredient lists, nutrition facts, marks, characters, barcodes, and more, carefully placing each piece one by one and meticulously arranging them within the case.
Because the pieces are not glued together, they are sensitive to any vibration, causing avalanches along the bottom and sides of the case, creating organic, sediment-like layers. The continuously accumulating pieces subtly change day by day, revealing a complex surface texture. Occasionally, letters are cut out one by one and lined up along barcode lines, which becomes a striking visual highlight of her work.

The photos shown are documentary records taken regularly by support staff, capturing this ephemeral act that cannot be preserved as an object.
