Born on a Tuesday in 1988, Shibata Ryuhei has been creating artwork since 2007 during weekly painting club sessions at Atelier Younoie (Sakai, Osaka).
Shibata has a strong fascination with numbers, those found in birthdays, song lengths, supermarket receipts, and other aspects of daily life, and fills the page with these figures. As he draws, he rapidly taps away at a calculator, though his unique method of calculation remains mysterious. It may be, in a sense, a kind of self-checking ritual, an act of confirming something only he fully understands.
